Palm is Launching Palm Pre

Posted by Geek LCS under ,
Palm will be launching their new handheld which is the first using Palm WebOS. After a while, Palm finally release this new beautiful thing.

Palm Pre is designed to make our lives easier, that's what people from Palm said during the launching.

I do like this stuff. It looks very stylish and yet not so big or small for me. It has QWERTY keyboard which slides easily in and out of the slider. The thing I really like is the hand movement strokes that are assigned for special commands. I watched the launching CES video and it was amazing!

I couldn't wait to seek for any new announcement from Palm regarding Palm Pre. I wonder what will be the price of it since Palm Pre have to compete with others of its kind from Blackberry, Apple, Samsung, and etc.

I believe that there is still not many applications available for Palm Pre yet but Palm has opened the opportunity to all developers who want to take this chance to design a special application for Palm Pre. [Read more]

I have watched Palm Pre in action and totally felt in love with that little sweety. I hope to hear for new progression soon from Palm and will look forward to have one for my own if the price is not sky high. [Video link]
I've made a post regarding on how to find the cause of your low virtual memory. Now I would like to show you on how to determine your virtual memory. Our friend also had asked about it on the comments column.

It is very easy to determine the virtual memory. Just follow these simple steps:

Right click My Computer --> Properties --> General tab

The amount of your virtual memory will be shown on the screen.

OK, now since we already know how to check and how to find the cause of low virtual memory, there will be another question asked; how to increase it?

There is nothing much you can do if the virtual memory installed to your laptop is very low. On my 4 years old laptop, the virtual memory is only 496 MB. The rules of increasing virtual memory is, you can only increase it by 1.5 times at most. So for my case, I can only increase it to 744 MB. The more virtual memory you have, the faster you computer will work.

Follow these steps to increase the virtual memory:

Right click My Computer --> Properties --> Advanced --> Performance --> Setting --> Advance --> Virtual Memory --> Change --> set the value --> OK

Have fun checking you computer now.

Windows Mobile 6.5 Coming Soon

Posted by Geek LCS under , ,
Later this year, Microsoft will release their latest mobile OS, Windows Mobile 6.5. The new version OS will have a new look from it's earlier brothers.

Here are some screen shots come straight from Microsoft.

1. The new honeycomb start screen for easy application access.

2. The locked screen allows users to respond to interactive user interface elements with a simple PIN, even if the device is locked.

3. New Internet Explorer Mobile features Adobe's Flash Lite.

Personally, I think the new interface used in Windows Mobile 6.5 is really cool. To all smartphone users out there, get ready to upgrade your OS later this year. Can't hardly wait for the OS to be officially released and buy myself a nice smartphone.
Sometimes you may find problems in installing a new application, especially if you buy your computer more than 3 years ago without doing any operating system (OS) upgrades.

I encounter this problem during the process of installing Photoshop CS4 Extended version into my laptop. The software actually was installed well but when I try to open the application, there was this one error message appear saying that my operation system is not compatible with Photoshop CS4 extended and I need to have at least Windows XP SP2 to get this application running. So I uninstall the application with disappointment.

I knew I have Windows XP OS but I actually don't know which SP (service pack) I have. At that time, I don't really know how to check it so I made some study using Windows Help. Now I want to share with you all on how to actually check your computer's OS version.

1. Go to Start Menu and click Control Panel as shown below.

2. Then the Control Panel window will appear. Click on System as highlighted in the picture below.

3. System Properties window will appear. Make sure the General tab is opened and your OS info will be there too as highlighted. Click OK when you finish.

As the picture above stated, my operation system is Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP1 (yeah right, I bought this laptop in 2003). Other information you can get is the manufacturer of your computer, the processor, and also the RAM. You can use these information to upgrade your computer; the OS, processor, or RAM.
Have you experience to see a pop up message saying, 'Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file'? And I bet your windows runs slower during the time you receive that message.

I had encounter the problem above and I keep on wondering what is the cause and how can I fix this problem. So now I will show you how to find the cause.

1. Open Windows Task Manager by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del. Then the Task Manager will appear like below. Take note that below, the Applications tab is opened. Now you have to open the Processes tab just next to the Applications tab.

2. Click View and then Select Columns.

3. A Select Column window will appear. Check the Virtual Memory Size box and click OK as highlighted below.

4. Now you have the VM Size column added to your Processes tab. Click the VM Size column twice as highlighted below to arrange them from the largest to the smallest.

Now you can know the brat who use up a lot of virtual memory in your computer. As in the Task Manager above, both Firefox and Photoshop use up majority of the virtual memory. This is because I let the Firefox browser open for almost 24 hours and the Photoshop program which I downloaded it somewhere is either poorly copied or poorly debugged.

Some applications will use up a lot of virtual memory when you open them for a long period. Applications that are poorly written and debugged also can cause this problem. They will cause your computer to be more unresponsive and you end up to restart your computer.

To solve this problem, you shouldn't let your computer on or the applications open for a long time. If you encounter the virtual memory low message, just do the steps above to look for the source and once you have identify it, please contact the support of the software vendor for further help or maybe some update patch.
